Napa Livingston
Lured by its small town character and lovely setting, they came to St. Helena in 1976 to raise a family of six children. Unlike many others who arrived in the past 30 years, there was no forethought of ever joining the wine business. Little did they suspect that the decision to move to the Napa Valley was the first step in doing just that. In 1984 they pursued their growing passion in the wine industry and began producing Cabernet wines.
The fabulous wines we featured:
1997 Stanley's Selection, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
- 93 points, Wine Enthusiast
- 90 points, Wine Advocate, Robert M. Parker, Jr.
Tasting Notes: Classic aromas of aged Cabernet offer high tone cassis, red cherry, plum, and blueberry fruits with white pepper, brown sugar, truffle oil and floral notes. On the palate, fruit is upfront featuring cedar with juicy acidity, sour cherry, plum and cranberry flavors. Spicy dried fruits and firm structure lead to a long finish with notes of juicy cherry.
1992 Moffett Vineyards, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
- 91 points, The Insiders. Wine Line
- 90+ points, American Wine Review
Tasting Notes: Aromas are of blackberry and dried dark fruit with hints of anise and lightly toasted oak. On the palate the wine is extremely well-balanced with lots of layers and complexity. This is an elegant wine that delivers nice juicy fruit with dried fruit overtones. The tannins are soft and balanced very well with the acidity from the fruit.
Winemaker's Notes
For the 1997 vintage, John chose four mostly one- to two-acre vineyards: Price, next door to Spottswoode; Walther, near Caymus; Corbett, adjacent to Moffett Vineyard; and Gemstone, with five clones of Cabernet along with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petite Verdot. Yields ranged between of 2.5 to 4.5 tons per acre.
The 1992 growing season began mildly. An August heat wave led to falling temperatures in September, and ample hang time. Hand harvest yielded 3.25 tons per acre.
